What Is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a disorder that disrupts breathing during sleep, leading to pauses in breathing that can occur hundreds of times per night. This results in low oxygen levels and forces the brain to repeatedly wake the body to resume normal breathing.
The most common type of sleep apnea is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), which occurs when the airway becomes blocked due to relaxed throat muscles and soft tissue collapse.
