At Lisa J. McDonald, DMD & Associates, we offer root canal therapy as a highly effective treatment to save teeth that would otherwise require extraction due to decay, infection, or trauma. While many people associate root canals with discomfort, modern dental techniques have made the procedure safe, efficient, and relatively pain-free, helping you preserve your natural tooth while eliminating pain and infection.
What Is Root Canal Therapy?
A root canal is a procedure performed when the inner pulp of a tooth becomes infected or damaged. The pulp contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue, and when it becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause severe pain, abscesses, and even tooth loss.
During a root canal, the damaged pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned, disinfected, and sealed with a biocompatible material. This restores the tooth’s function while preventing further infection.
